Prep Series — steel that carries the week

Meal prep, in stainless steel.

Stainless steel is the most practical material for meal prep: it does not stain, does not hold onto yesterday's food, and does not wear out in daily washing. SEIDO's Prep Series lunch boxes are 304 (18/8) food-grade stainless steel — microwave-safe by design, dishwasher-safe, and made without intentionally added PFAS.

Batch-cooked chicken, rice and broccoli portioned into three stainless steel meal prep containers

Three 27 oz (800 ml) containers, one batch-cooking session, and the front half of your week is already portioned, stacked and ready to carry.

The routine

Cook once. Eat all week.

01

Cook

One batch session in a Sear Series skillet. Real browning — the difference between reheated and warmed-up.

02

Portion

Three 27 oz (800 ml) containers, filled while the pan is still warm. The week's front half, decided once.

03

Carry

Refrigerator to gym bag to microwave — the same container the whole way. Then the dishwasher, and again.

Why is stainless steel good for meal prep?

Meal prep is repetition: the same containers filled, chilled, reheated and washed, week after week. That repetition is exactly what wears soft materials out — tomato stains that never lift, odors that carry into the next meal, surfaces that scratch and cloud in the dishwasher.

304 (18/8) stainless steel does not do any of that. It is the same material used in professional kitchens for the same reason: it shrugs off staining, takes a proper scrub without damage, and looks the same in year five as it did in week one. The Prep Series containers are lab-tested in the dishwasher to EN 12875-1 over 50 cycles, and rated for the refrigerator and freezer.

  • No staining or odor carry-over from sauces, spices or dressings
  • Dishwasher safe, handwash recommended — lab-tested, EN 12875-1, 50 cycles
  • Refrigerator and freezer safe — lab-tested
  • Microwave-safe by design — engineered for it, lab-tested
  • One uncoated food-contact surface: 304 (18/8) stainless steel

Built for the gym bag and the work week

A meal-prep routine only survives if the containers keep up with it. The Prep Series 3-pack is sized for real portions — 27 oz (800 ml) holds a full meal of protein, carbs and vegetables — and the three containers stack flat in the refrigerator so Sunday's cooking becomes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's meals without another decision.

At the office or the gym, reheating is the honest test. Most stainless steel containers fail it — metal and microwaves famously do not mix. These were engineered for the microwave and lab-tested for it, so lunch goes from refrigerator to hot without changing containers. At home, the container (without its lid) can also go straight into the oven.

Clean eating starts with the container

If you are careful about what goes into your food, the container it lives in is part of the same decision. The Prep Series food-contact surface is uncoated 304 (18/8) stainless steel — there is no synthetic coating to scratch, flake or wear into your meals, because there is no coating at all. Made without intentionally added PFAS, and we publish the test reports behind every claim on our Materials & Safety page.

We are honest about the limits too: the lid is for the refrigerator, the freezer and the dishwasher, and it can stay on in the microwave only with its steam vent fully open and clear — never in the oven. The container was lab-tested with the lid off, which is why lid off is what we recommend.

What are the benefits of stainless steel?

Durability is the quiet one. Steel does not ask to be replaced: it is built for daily dishwasher cycles, takes metal utensils and hard scrubbing, and does not degrade with heat cycles the way coated or soft materials do. When a container finally does retire, stainless steel is endlessly recyclable.

That is the buy-once argument in one line: a material that performs the same on wash two hundred as it did on wash one, backed by our 5-Year Limited Warranty.

From the skillet to the container

The routine works best as one system: batch cook in an uncoated Sear Series skillet — the browning that real searing builds is most of what makes reheated food still taste cooked, not warmed up — then portion straight into the three Prep Series containers while the pan is still warm.

One cooking session, three meals stacked in the refrigerator, and a skillet that cleans up with a scourer and no anxiety about damaging a coating.

Frequently asked questions

Are stainless steel containers good for meal prep?
Yes. Stainless steel does not stain, does not hold onto food odors, and survives daily dishwasher cycles without clouding or scratching the way plastic does. SEIDO's Prep Series containers are 304 (18/8) food-grade stainless steel, sized at 27 oz (800 ml) for full meal portions.
Can you microwave stainless steel meal prep containers?
Most stainless steel containers are not microwave-safe — but SEIDO's Prep Series lunch boxes are engineered specifically for the microwave and lab-tested for it. That removes the biggest compromise of steel meal prep: reheating in the same container you carried. Reheat within the conditions the container was lab-tested under: food in the container, lid off, a microwave of up to 1000 W, one container at a time, clear of the walls. Lid off is recommended; if the lid stays on, its steam vent must be fully open and clear, with food at least 1/2 in (1 cm) below the rim so nothing touches the lid. The full rules are in the safety leaflet in the box.
Can stainless steel meal prep containers go in the dishwasher?
Yes — dishwasher safe, handwash recommended. Lab-tested to EN 12875-1 across 50 wash cycles; a hand wash keeps the brushed finish brightest for longest.
Can you freeze food in stainless steel containers?
Yes — SEIDO Prep Series containers are refrigerator and freezer safe, lab-tested. Batch cook once, refrigerate the front half of the week and freeze the rest.
Do stainless steel containers stain or hold odors?
No. A non-porous 304 stainless steel surface does not absorb pigments or aromas, so tomato-based sauces, curries and dressings rinse away completely — the next meal never tastes like the last one.
